Alexander 'Xander' Avant is a character from Bold and the Beautiful. The character was portrayed by Adain Bradley initially from 2018 to 2019, later reprising the role for a short stint from late December 2023 to early January 2024.
Background[]
Alexander "Xander" Avant is the nephew of Julius Avant and came to Los Angeles on June 12, 2018. He is half-British and was raised in England by Julius’ brother Claude Avant and his wife, Maisie Avant.
Arrival in Los Angeles, Meeting Emma Barber and Running Into Zoe Buckingham[]
Xander arrived in Los Angeles in June of 2018, looking to make a fresh start in America. He was promptly hired as an intern at Forrester Creations. He soon became smitten and started a romance with fellow intern Emma, having met her after being hit on the head and knocked out by accident, during a dance routine.
Xander's ex-girlfriend, Zoe Buckingham, soon thereafter moved to Los Angeles and attempted all in her power to get him back. It became clear she could be dangerous when it was revealed she’d used Sally Spectra's laptop to make it seem as though she’d been sending threatening messages to Hope Logan. When Xander became frustrated with the much younger Emma after she did not want to progress their relationship, Zoe made it very clear that she would jump right back into bed with him if that’s what he wanted.
After landing a job as a model for Forrester Creations, Zoe arranged for Xander to also do some modeling so they could spend more time together, and it worked like a charm. Eventually, Emma backed off and Zoe finally snagged her man back. Over time, Zoe turned her obsession down a few notches and started acting relatively normal at the same time Emma backed off, leaving Xander free to date his ex again. The two even challenged each other to change the way they talk, with both of them adopting American accents.
Involvement with Hiding Beth Spencer[]
When Zoe's father, Dr. Reese Buckingham, arrived in Los Angeles, it became apparent that he owed a casino upwards of $50,000 in gambling debt. The casino hired numerous "thugs" to threaten Reese and coerce him into paying the money, going as far as stalking Zoe. After being sent pictures of his daughter with threat to kill her, Reese acted drastically to obtain the money.
When Hope ended up in his clinic on Catalina Island, whilst he was on duty during a severe thunderstorm, Reese was the sole medical staff who delivered her baby early and broke the tragic news that the infant had died. After weeks of regret, Reese presented girlfriend Dr. Taylor Hayes with a baby for Steffy to adopt, and introduced her to the mother, Flo Fulton. After the adoption was finalised, to a sum of $50,000, Reese paid off the debt and threats ceased to persevere. After being confronted by Zoe as to how the baby came under his care, Reese admitted to Zoe that he stole it from Hope.
Xander overheard Zoe and Flo talking about how Hope Logan‘s baby was still alive. Insisting that it was cruel to keep this from Hope, Xander rushed off to stop her from annulling her marriage to Liam Spencer, and tell the couple the shocking truth. After arriving at the Logan Mansion and about to state the truth, Xander was intervened by Thomas Forrester, who wanted Liam and Hope to divorce. By a slip of the tongue, Xander mentioned Flo's name to Thomas, confusing him. After confronting Flo at the Forrester Mansion, Thomas learned of Beth's fate. He too was driven to tell Hope, but decided in the end not to, instead leveraging the secret to his own benefit - knowing Hope would return to Liam if Beth were alive. Thomas met at Forrester Creations with Xander, Zoe and Flo after making this decision, threatening each of them to keep quiet.
Death of Emma Barber[]
Emma had overheard a conversation in the Forrester Creations shipping dock between Xander and Zoe, where it was mentioned that Beth was alive and had been adopted by Steffy. In absolute shock, Emma confirmed this information with Xander and Zoe, then berated them for keeping this secret. Emma tried to leave the building, but was slowed down by Pamela Douglas who asked about a bake sale, and was then formally intervened by Thomas, who brought her into the Executive Office and threatened her against telling Hope about Beth. Emma defied, left the building and drove off, with Thomas in close pursuit.
Thomas followed Emma up the Pacific Coast Highway, where Emma used her phone to draft Hope a text message. The phone was put down, at which time Emma was near a cliff's edge with Thomas heavily tailgating. Thomas' vehicle hit Emma's rear, causing her to swerve and lose control. The vehicle drove off the cliff and landed in a ditch, where Emma died of her injuries as Thomas watched on, satisfied, before reporting back to Forrester Creations and informing Xander, Zoe and Flo of Emma's fate.
News of Emma's death circulated within hours, and a memorial service was held at Forrester Creations the following day. During this space, Xander engaged Charlie Webber to search through security footage of the parking lot where Emma was parked, where it was noticed that she left with Thomas pursuing. Xander infiltrated Thomas' vehicle and browsed the location history of Thomas' GPS, which showed the location of Emma's death. Xander accused Thomas of vehicular homicide, threatening to tell law enforcement. Thomas stated that Xander's fate would be similar to Emma's if he were to proceed with such.
Xander decided to leave Zoe and move back to London, in attempt to hide from the potential impacts this may hold.
Dismissal from Forrester Creations[]
In August 2019, Xander was summoned to attend a meeting with Zoe, Ridge and Brooke at Forrester Creations. Xander had learned the truth about Beth had been revealed, and wanted to ensure that Reese paid dearly for orchestrating the baby switch. This was raised at the meeting, with Xander presenting the evidence he’d found indicating that Thomas was responsible for Emma’s death. Ridge refused to believe such things about his son, and whilst accepting that Reese's role as orchestrator was most severe, he knew that Xander and Zoe also held roles in keeping a secret which caused acute pain to his family. Ridge stated that he would like Xander and Zoe to be punished for their actions, but as there were no legal precedents over keeping secrets, he realised there to be no choice but to terminate his and Zoe's employment.
Xander returned to London afterwards.
Brief Return to Los Angeles and Meeting with Dr. John Finnegan[]
In December 2023, Xander returned to Los Angeles in an effort to turn his life back around. He begins by establishing connection with a General Practitioner; he chose Dr. John Finnegan at University of Los Angeles Hospital. Unaware of one another, Xander and Finn attend their first appointment. Xander almost immediately notices a framed photo of Finn and Steffy on his desk, and asks Finn if he is married to her. After receiving confirmation, Xander opts to leave. Finn asks if he has a problem with Steffy, but instead retorts that his issues are with her brother, Thomas. Xander explains how Thomas ran Emma Barber's car off a cliff on Mulholland Drive, whilst she was rushing to tell Hope that her daughter Beth was actually alive.
Xander left Finn's office and presumably returned to London once again, but Finn began spreading the information to Steffy and Hope, both of whom did not initially believe him.
