Thorne is the son of Eric Forrester and Stephanie Forrester. Karen is the daughter of Bill Spencer Sr. and Marion Bradley Spencer. Karen is the identical twin sister of Caroline Spencer Forrester, Thorne's ex wife. Thorne and Caroline were instantly infatuated with one another. Thorne was separated from his wife Macy Alexander Sharpe and he started flirting with Karen. Macy and Karen started actively fighting for Thorne. At one point all three of them lived inside one apartment and did everything to compete for Thorne's love. Karen's father wanted his daughter to be in a relationship with Thorne as he really liked him since the times he was married to his late daughter Caroline. It seemed that the two had big chances to end up together however Thorne decided that he wants to fight for his wife instead.
