Tanner Novlan was born in Paradise Hill, in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan on April 9, 1986. He revealed that upon his arrival in the United States at the age of 21, he worked for a construction company while simultaneously taking acting classes. Novlan modeled in print campaigns for the brands Guess and Tommy Hilfiger.
Novlan created a name for himself when he played on a commercial for Liberty Mutual. In March 2020, he was cast in the recurring role of Gregory Manes in The CW's Roswell, New Mexico, first appearing near the end of its second season. He reprised his role for the series' third season in 2021.
In July 2020, he began playing the contract role of Dr. John "Finn" Finnegan, Steffy Forrester's love interest, on the CBS Daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
In May 2015, Novlan got engaged to actress and The Bold and the Beautiful alum Kayla Ewell. The couple married on 12 September 2015. In March 2019, the couple announced they were expecting their first child. On 16 July 2019, Ewell gave birth to their daughter, Poppy Marie.
