Storylines[]

Background[]

Shane came to Los Angeles with dreams of pursuing an acting career, but ended up becoming homeless when the plan backfired.

Meeting Phoebe Forrester and Witnessing Darla Forrester's Death[]

When Phoebe Forrester was on her way to a family birthday party, she got a flat tire while on a very foggy Pacific Coast Highway, she called her mom, Taylor Hamilton for help, but became startled when Shane popped up in front of her. Thinking he was gone, Phoebe then called her aunt, Darla Einstein for help. When Darla arrived and began changing the tire, she lost her balance and fell back into the road and was hit by Taylor, who had been drinking and driving on a suspended license. This was witnessed not only by Phoebe, but also Shane, who had hid in the bushes by the highway and saw everything that transpired.

Shane kept this to himself until he got a job as Taylor's landscaper, cleaned and shaven. He planned to use this information to blackmail the Forrester family for money, but it changed when he met Phoebe and began developing feelings for her. After an accident with a chainsaw, leaving him incapacitated from working, Shane gave up his blackmail scheme when the Forresters paid all of his medical bills and offered a roof over his head. However, when Taylor finally confessed that she was the driver that hit Darla and was arrested, he spoke out on her behalf that it was an accident.

Shane soon went back to his old routes and believed he was the only person to get Taylor out of prison, which Phoebe also believed. However, after a physical encounter with another man, Harry Jackson who had also developed feelings for Phoebe, he took off, along with his testimony, devastating Phoebe. He returned later after Taylor only got 100 hours of community service after a testimony from Darla's widower, Thorne Forrester. He soon began secretly dating Phoebe, much to the family's dismay.

Obsession with Phoebe and Confrontations with Ridge Forrester and Nick Marone[]

Shane became obsessed with Phoebe and attempted to land a client for his recycling company so he could build a future with Phoebe. At this stage, Phoebe had lost interest in Shane and was romantically involved with Rick Forrester. Shane went to Forrester Creations (then Forrester Originals during takeover by Nick Marone's ownership) and confronted Phoebe's father, Ridge Forrester. Shane blamed Ridge for his break-up with Phoebe, believing that he never supported their relationship.

Shane had stalked Phoebe and made several unwanted advances and visits to her, at a time in which she was living with her mother Dr. Taylor Hayes and her partner Nick Marone. Nick ordered Shane off his property numerous times, to limited avail. Tensions came to a boil when Shane entered Forrester Creations and was noticed by Nick, who threatened to kill Shane and dump his body into the Santa Monica Bay if he ever saw him again. Nick fought with Shane in an elevator and saw him out of the building, but Shane soon regained entry and aggressively confronted Ridge in his office.

Amidst an elevated verbal altercation, Shane pulled out a gun. Becoming increasingly insane, Shane felt alone and fell into depression and believed that if he was dead, no one would even know if he was gone. Ridge attempted to reason with Shane and claimed he would assist to get Shane mental health treatment, but Shane continued to rant and turned the gun on himself, threatening suicide. Ridge struggled to turn the gun away and it went off. Shane smugly grinned at Ridge, before collapsing, dead. It became apparent that Shane intentionally turned the gun on himself during the struggle, to imply that Ridge shot him.

Framing Ridge For His Own Murder[]

Initially deliberating calling authorities, Ridge suddenly remembered from 10 years prior that he took the blame for the shooting of Brooke's ex-husband Grant Chambers, and was told in a court of law that he would serve jail-time if he committed another gun-related crime. The actual shooter was Brooke and Eric's son, Rick Forrester, for whom both Ridge and Grant wanted to protect. To cover up his involvement, and in a state of panic and desperation, Ridge took Shane's body and dumped in the Santa Monica Bay using Nick's new boat, The Shady Marlin II. The following day, Nick was confused to see his boat in an altered condition to when he last left it, and both Ridge and Stephanie were concerned to see bloodstains on the carpet where Shane had died.

After a police investigation, Nick is charged with Shane's murder and is imprisoned. His lawyer, Brooke's brother Storm Logan, supported Nick as he suspected Stephanie had framed him. As Nick attended court to receive his conviction for killing Shane, Ridge stepped forward and admitted that Shane had committed suicide in front of him, with intent to frame Ridge for his own murder, and that he used Nick's boat to offload Shane's body in an act of desperation. This was further supported by Rick, who, after counselling, convinced the judge that he recalled shooting Grant Chambers, releasing Ridge of the initial gun-related crime.

The charges were dropped and Nick was freed.
