Bonding[]
Ridge was about to marry Katie's sister Brooke Logan Forrester even thought him and Katie bonded while Ridge was disappointed that his fiancée hurt her sister by having an affair with Bill Spencer Jr., Katie's husband at the time. The two discovered that they have a common interest which is poetry. When Ridge's and Brooke's wedding started Katie faked passing out to stop it. Soon after this Ridge and Katie decided to start a relationship. Brooke and Donna Logan both told Katie that Ridge will eventually come back to Brooke as he always does, but Katie didn't listen to them. The two seemed very much in love and one day Ridge proposed to Katie, but instead of giving her a ring he put a red ribbon on her finger.
Ridge's dangerous accident, betrayal with Caroline Spencer II and the end of Kridge[]
When Brooke was about to marry Bill Spencer Jr. in Dubai Ridge decided to stop the ceremony even if he was in a relationship with Katie at the time. Ridge steals Brooke from the altar and when he takes her to a helicopter he has no idea that Justin Barber, Bill's friend is the pilot. Bill asks Justin to give Ridge a bath. Justin makes a move that lands Ridge in the Persian Gulf. Brooke is horrified. Ridge is lost. Katie arrives and they both look for him. Finally Ridge is found confused and wandering the beach. He is clearly more interested in Brooke than in Katie because he remembers her more. In LA everyone greets Ridge and even his enemy Rick Forrester cries tears of joy that his nemesis is alive and well. Ridge regains his full memory, but he discovers that he isn't able to design anymore. Caroline Spencer II that was Rick Forrester's wife at the time helps him to re-gain his abilities. During one of their "sessions" they kiss which happens a couple of times. One time Maya Avant, Rick's ex girlfriend saw them and she told him that his wife is cheating on him. Rick is horrified especially because his wife was kissing Ridge, who he rarely gets along with. He feels betrayed and humiliated. Caroline and Ridge try to convince Rick that he can still be married and that it was only a couple of kisses, but Rick is not having it. Rick pretends to go back to Caroline for some time just because he wanted to gain control at Forrester Creations and going back to Caroline was Eric Forrester's condition. Once Rick gained the power he dumped Caroline. Ridge, Eric and Caroline were furious with Rick. Caroline begged Rick once again and Ridge asked Carter Walton what can be done, but he heard that there is nothing that can be done. Soon after that Caroline and Ridge kissed again and Rick shot a gun in the room to scare them. After that Caroline officially stopped to fight for her marriage and begun seeing Ridge who left the Logan girl. Katie was heartbroken, but she accepted Ridge's decision gracefully.
