Ridge Forrester and Caroline Spencer are fictional characters and a former couple on CBS's daytime soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. Ridge is the son of business mogul, Eric Forrester and Stephanie Forrester. Caroline was the daughter of Bill Spencer Sr. and Marion Bradley Spencer.
Ridge was portrayed by Ronn Moss and Caroline was portrayed by Joanna Johnson.
Brief dating and Ridge's proposal (1987)[]
Ridge and Caroline have been dating since the start of the series. While Ridge's parents Stephanie Forrester and Eric Forrester like the young Spencer girl Caroline's father Bill Spencer Sr. isn't at all impressed with Ridge as he considers him to be a playboy.
March, 1987 Ridge wants to make love to Caroline, but she insist on taking this step only after marriage. Ridge decides to propose. Eric questions why Ridge is rushing things and he is worried that his son didn't think this thought and he might hurt Caroline as Eric considered her to be a very lovely, gentle girl. Despite being worried he designs a wedding dress for his future daughter in law. Bill Spencer Sr. openly expresses that he does not accept Ridge as his future son in law however Caroline succeeded to convince her father to accept their relationship. Caroline calls Kristen Forrester, Ridge's younger sister and invited her to their wedding. When Kristen arrives in LA the two hit it off and become great friends.
Ridge's betrayal and Caroline passing out at the altar[]
Caroline is very happy on her wedding day to Ridge, but it all ends when her father reveals that Ridge has cheated on her. Caroline faints at the altar and is rushed to the hospital. When she wakes up Thorne talks to her and convinces her that Ridge understands his mistake. Another person that visited Caroline was a girl named Brooke Logan Forrester who will later become her friend and then rival. The two bonded when Brooke comforted her. Caroline is unable to forgive her father for ruining her wedding day and she decided to move out of his home, but unfortunately she gets mugged. Caroline asks Kristen Forresterfor help. Ridge follows his sister and finds Caroline and finally is able to talk to her. Ridge was working on getting Caroline back and in May 1987 he gave her an engagement ring. The Spencer girl replied that she can't promise him anything. Bill finds his daughter, steals the ring that Ridge has given to her and hands it back to Ridge. Caroline found out and she got annoyed and in spite she accepts Ridge's offer to go on a date to a restaurant. The two danced and kissed, but Caroline wasn't ready to take the ring back just yet.

Caroline was looking for a job and Thorne, who started falling in love with Caroline, offered her a job at Forrester Creations. Caroline refused because she didn't want to work side by side with Ridge and went to work in another company instead. In June 1987 Ridge invited Caroline to a party at his parents house. Caroline agrees to come and at the party she see's Brooke Logan again working as a caterer. She gives the Logan girl her number and wants the two of them to stay in touch. After the party is over Ridge tries to seduce Caroline again, but she rejects him. Ridge is disappointed and vows that he won't be waiting forever. Ridge let his brother Thorne Forrester believe that he and Caroline made love. Ridge's brother decides to see Caroline and talks with her about it, but Caroline assures him that it's not true. In the heat of the moment Thorne kisses Caroline.

A new chance for Caroline and Ridge[]
Caroline warmed up to Ridge again and he invited her to Cafe Russe to celebrate Eric and Stephanie's reunion. During the meeting Caroline makes a confession to Ridge that she wanted to wait with sex until marriage because this is a vow she made to her late mother, but Ridge is impatient. Caroline confesses her decision about not making love till she's married to Stephanie Forrester. Stephanie explains to Caroline that Ridge is not a patient man.
Ridge seducing Brooke[]
In July 1987 Ridge, annoyed with Caroline's vows to wait until marriage decides to pursue Caroline's friend Brooke Logan Forrester. He see's the Logan girl at the bar and starts fantasizing about them making out. Ridge asked Brooke if he can join her. Brooke said she's not alone, but Ridge pointed out that he saw Brooke's date leaving before and he sat at her table. Ridge ordered cocktails for them and asked Brooke why does he get a feeling that she's upset with him. Brooke said that she is impressed that he remembered her name and Ridge asked her how could he forget her. Brooke asked if he is meeting Caroline, but Ridge said it's not the case. Ridge said that Caroline is at home guarding her virginity. Brooke asked Ridge if there are problems between him and Caroline. Ridge said there is a big problem and Brooke said that it must be his fault because he won't be able to find a girl lovelier than Caroline. Ridge replies "out of a convent". Brooke started encouraging Ridge to start admiring and respecting Caroline's convictions. Ridge told Brooke that he likes her and asks her to go back to his place to swim at the pool. Brooke accepts. The two arrived at the pool and start talking. Brooke tells Ridge he can't imagine how most families live compared to his family. Brooke confessed that her family had problems with bills to pay even with all the kids working and pitching in as 7 years ago their father left which put a burden on her mother, but she never complained and made sure all of her kids made it to collage. She told Ridge that she and Storm made it this year. Ridge is annoyed that Brooke is so serious because he has different things in mind than talking and encourages Brooke to drink. The two kissed. Ridge asked Brooke why she's still dressed, but Brooke said that Caroline is her friend and she won't give in. She called a cap and told Ridge that he looks better with his clothes on.
Soon after Stephanie revealed to Caroline that Ridge is flirting with Brooke. Caroline was furious and confronted Ridge and he lied that Brooke was the one seducing him, but Caroline didn't buy it and slapped him before leaving the Forrester residence. Caroline writes a goodbye letter to Ridge in which she explains that she loves him, but they can't be together.
Caroline gets raped[]
Saddened by her break up with Ridge Caroline was at a bar where she met a charming man named Ron Deacon. The man was secretly observing Caroline before. The two eat dinner together and Ron tells Caroline that he'll take her back home. When Caroline wanted to close the door he stopped her and brutally raped her. Caroline is devastated and calls Brooke. The Logan girl asked her fiance Dave Reed to help Caroline. They both take Caroline to the hospital where Brooke convinces the Spencer girl to move in to her family home. Caroline agrees and doesn't tell anyone where she is.
Thorne finds out about the rape. He confesses his love for her and assures her that he will not tell anyone where she is or what happened. Brooke takes Caroline to Joan Anderson, a therapist. Roy Banks takes the case of Caroline's rape and he doesn't fully believe that she was raped because of lacking evidence. Caroline is devastated meanwhile Thorne feels forced to reveal the truth about the rape to Caroline's father and he organizes a meeting between daughter and father. Caroline refuses to tell her dad where she is living and doesn't want to go back to his place.
September 1987 Ridge calls Caroline, but she doesn't want to see him. Storm Logan finds out what happened and helps Caroline to create a drawing of the rapist. Soon after Dave calls and says that Ron has been captured.
Stephanie and Eric found out about the rape. Stephanie went to see Caroline and assured her that Ridge doesn't know anything about it. Caroline wonders if maybe she should go back living with her father because she fears that Logans might be in trouble if the press will haunt her, but the Logans assure her that she should stay.
In October 1987 Caroline get a visit from Florence Deacon, the rapists mother. Florence tried to convince Caroline that her son is not a bad person, but the Spencer girl refused to listen to her excuses and tells her testimony to persecutor Jeff Talon. After this Storm hands Caroline a love letter from Ridge and she's touched by it. Caroline brief sweet moment caused by Ridge's love letter doesn't last long as soon her rapist gets a lawyer named Robin West. A very hard process held by Madeline Collins starts. Ron's attorney wants to prove that Caroline is lying which is really heartbreaking for her. Soon Caroline starts losing the battle. In November 1987 Ridge becomes a witness in the case. At court he says that Caroline doesn't approve of sex before marriage. Ridge's testimony is very important for the case. Caroline is very grateful to Ridge the warm feelings for him came back. Caroline wanted to see Ridge, but Brooke, that in meantime developed strong feelings for Ridge, convinced her not to go.
Caroline accepts Thorne's proposal[]
After Ron gets convicted Caroline and Thorne spend a romantic evening at Caffe Russe. Thorne proposes to Caroline and she asks him for some time to think. She developed feelings for him during the trial, but she was also still very much in love with Ridge. When Caroline tells Brooke about Thorne's proposal the Logan girl encourages her to accept. Caroline thinks it over and decides to accept Thorne's marriage proposal and offers her friendship to Ridge. Ridge vows that he won't be coming to the wedding and kisses Caroline in front of Thorne.

In December 1987 Eric gifts Caroline a beautiful wedding dress that he himself designed. When Caroline was trying her dress Brooke hands her a letter from Ridge (after Stephanie told Brooke to do it). Caroline is torn if she should open it, but she does on her wedding day. It's a love letter in which Ridge is confessing his love again. Caroline asks Brooke to bring Ridge to her. During the meeting Ridge tells her that he loves her, but Caroline married his brother anyway. She also convinced Ridge to be Thorne's best man. After Caroline became Thorne's wife Brooke caught her bouquet. Right after the wedding ceremony the two went for a honeymoon.
When Caroline and Thorne are back Brooke confessed to her that she and Ridge started dating and asked her if she is against it. Caroline says that she has nothing against it, but secretly suffers.
Thorne takes Caroline to Big Bear Cabin for what was supposed to be a romantic getaway, but when they arrive Brooke and Ridge are there. Caroline doesn't really want to look at Ridge and Brooke together, but the weather conditions force the four of them to spend the night together in the cabin.
In January 1988 Bill offers his daughter work at a fashion magazine while Ridge offers her work at Forrester Creations. The Forrester man also adds that he is still in love with her. Caroline is concerned that Ridge is using Brooke and she supports her during her hard times (Brooke's mother fighting breast cancer) however their friendship ends then Brooke confesses to Caroline that she was hiding Ridge's letter from her for some time before handing it to her. In February 1988 Caroline decides it's better she stays far from Ridge and starts working for her father. She gets her own office and befriends Valerie Cooper.
In March 1988 Caroline is jealous when she see's Brooke and Ridge together at the pool and wonders how her life would be if she could read Ridge's letter a lot sooner than she did. Caroline decides to tell Thorne about Brooke's manipulation, but he makes a confession that he was the one who convinced Brooke to hide the letter. Caroline is furious with Thorne. Brooke asks Caroline to not tell Ridge about the letter and she agrees, but under one condition- Brooke must stop seeing Ridge. Brooke agrees meanwhile Thorne makes a proposition to Caroline. He wants them to stop living at the Forrester mansion so Caroline won't be seeing Ridge anymore.
In April 1988 Caroline, Thorne and Ridge are celebrating Caroline's birthday. Suddenly Brooke, who was invited by Ridge arrives. Ridge can see that there is tension between Caroline and Brooke. The Logan girls is terrified that Caroline will reveal the truth about the letter to Ridge now that she broke her promise. Caroline takes the high road and keeps her silence.
Caroline asks Thorne to stop planning moving out because she has too much work at the magazine. The two continue living at the Forrester mansion where Caroline and ridge occasionally flirt. Caroline can't stop thinking about Ridge and calls a new magazine "Eye on fashion" which was Ridge's idea.
In May 1988 Ridge revealed to everyone that he thinks about marrying Brooke. Thorne is happy for Ridge, but Caroline thinks it's a joke and she's shocked when Brooke moved into the Forrester mansion. Caroline asks Ridge about his feelings for Brooke. Ridge replies that he likes her and flirts with Caroline. She gets angry and tries to slap him.
One evening Caroline, Ridge, Thorne and Brooke spend time at the pool. Ridge and Caroline both get drunk. Thorne decided that Caroline should rest and took her to the bedroom. He left her there and went to the kitchen. Ridge wants to make a prank and gets into Caroline's bed. It's dark and she thinks it's Thorne so she starts making out with him. The two end up having sex. After that shocked Ridge leaves the room and he feels guilty and horrified by his own actions, but he couldn't resist Caroline. After some time Caroline realizes that the man she was making love to was not Thorne. She questions Ridge and he says that it wasn't him, but she noticed that he had scratches on his back and realizes that it was him. Caroline is broken and tries to move out of the Forrester mansion. Stephanie stops her and then Caroline confesses to her what happened. Stephanie convinces her to stay. Soon Thorne notices that something isn't right with his wife. The two started having problems in bed.
Caroline's fight for Ridge (1988-1989)[]
Caroline was in New York with her father Bill when she found out that Ridge has been shot. She immediately travels back to LA. In October 1988 Caroline spends time by Ridge's hospital bed and reminisces about their past and kisses him. Soon after Ridge woke up from the coma. Ridge almost dying made Caroline realize how how she still loves him. She tries to reveal her feelings to him, but it stopped by Thorne. Caroline goes to see dr. Dennis Cameron and wants to get a therapy as she feels lost. Soon after Brooke tells Caroline that Ridge confessed that he loves her which only devastated Caroline more.
In December 1988 Caroline tells her therapist that she doesn't want Brooke and Ridge to get married. The therapist tells her to take action. Caroline decides to tell Stephanie the truth about her feelings and hopes to find an ally in her. She's disappointed when Stephanie disapproves of her going back to Ridge and leaving her other son. On the contrary Stephanie started to support Ridge and Brooke's union. Thorne tries his best to win Caroline over, but she's distant. Caroline offers peace to Brooke and reveals to Stephanie that she is going to leave Thorne. Stephanie begs Eric to stop Caroline from leaving Thorne because he won't be able to deal with it. Eric succeeds on stopping Caroline and soon the Spencer girl finds out that Brooke and Ridge are engaged.
In January 1989 Caroline tries to talk with Ridge again, but she ditches the idea when Ridge starts making fun of her father. She's so disappointed in Ridge that she decided to get close to Thorne again. Caroline made love to her husband again, but ends up flirting with Ridge soon after. Stephanie notices that Caroline and Ridge are getting close again so she suggests that Caroline and Thorne should get their own place. Thorne likes Stephanie's idea, but Caroline finds an excuse to stay close to Ridge.
Caroline confesses to Ridge that she loves him and can't forget the night they made love. She's ecstatic when Ridge tells her that his feelings are the same, but the happiness doesn't take long because Stephanie told Caroline that Brooke is pregnant with Ridge's baby. Caroline's mother in law asks her to stop interfering in Ridge and Brooke's engagement and to take care of her own marriage. Ridge tells Caroline that he won't leave Brooke now that she's pregnant which devastated Caroline. While Ridge and Brooke are planning their wedding Thorne asks Caroline if she wants to have a baby with him, but she doesn't want it. Heartbroken Caroline starts saying to Ridge that Brooke may not be pregnant and re-reads Ridge's old letter obsessing over "what if she got the letter faster". Brooke and Caroline even get into a fight. While Caroline is depressed and angry Stephanie suggests that she should organize a bachelorette party for Brooke. Caroline can't take it anymore and demands Brooke to move out of the mansion or she'll tell Ridge about the letter. She agrees, but also asks Caroline to become one of her bridesmaids.
Caroline and Ridge argued about their feelings. Caroline said that she will leave Thorne even Ridge marries Brooke because she doesn't love him as a wife should. Ridge replies that he won't hurt his brother despite the love he feels for her. Caroline is heartbroken when during a party Brooke says that her baby kicked and during her next conversation with Ride she accidentally mentions the letter. Ridge is shocked when he learns the truth meanwhile Brooke ends up in hospital due to stomach pain. Thorne is angry when Caroline goes to see Brooke in the hospital despite he asked her not to. Brooke loses her baby.
In July 1989 Caroline informs her father that she is getting a divorce from Ridge, but Bill assures her that Ridge won't go back to her. Caroline tries to talk to Thorne during a dinner, but he gets strong head pain and it stops her. Ridge asks Caroline to not leave Thorne, but she won't listen. Caroline proceeds to talk with Thorne again, but then he informs her that Ridge and Brooke left town together.
The end of Thorne and Caroline[]
In September 1989 Thorne prepares a romantic evening for him and Caroline. He wants to make love to her, but she rejects him. Thorne loses it and starts yelling at his wife. Caroline confesses to Ridge that she has to tell Thorne the truth about her desire to get divorced. Later Brooke told Caroline that Ridge doesn't want to talk to her and reveals that Thorne is the one who shot Ridge. Thorne forgot about it because of alcohol and sleeping pills, but if Caroline leaves him it may unblock his memory. Caroline decides to stay to protect Thorne's health. Caroline and Ridge visit Michelle Brookner, a psychiatrist. Michelle tells them that the confrontation with the truth will be very challenging for Thorne. She wants to see Thorne and tells Caroline to bring him to her under the pretext of marriage counseling. dr. Brookner wants to make sure that Thorne is ready to learn that he almost killed his older brother and to accept a divorce. Thorne agrees to a therapy. He is incredibly honest and vulnerable. During another session Caroline asks Thorne for a divorce. He is shocked and runs out of the office. When he comes back he is angry, but in the end agrees to a divorce.
In October 1989 Caroline moves out of the Forrester mansion and asks Ridge to choose between her and Brooke, but at that point Ridge is in love with the both of them and he feels torn. Also Brooke demands from Ridge to finally make a decision. Ridge promises to both ladies that he will make up his mind on his business trip to Milan and he will let them know once he comes back.
Stephanie confronts Caroline about leaving Thorne and in anger Caroline tells her that Thorne was the one who convinced Brooke to hide the love letter from Ridge.
Ridge comes back from Milan and informs Caroline that he can't get married to her because Thorne is still in love with her. Ridge decided that he also can't marry Brooke as he isn't ready.

Caroline tried to forget about Ridge and even went out with Dylan Smith, her father's employee, but soon after Ridge invited her to a romantic dinner where he asked Caroline to marry him. Caroline is ecstatic and accepts the proposal. Caroline makes it clear that they will have sex on their wedding night. Ridge makes a proposition that the two of them should get married in San Juan Capistrano, where Caroline's mother is buried. Eric again designs a special wedding dress for Caroline. The two are immensely happy and soon legally become husband and wife. They spend their wedding night in a hotel and their honeymoon in Venice, Italy and Paris, France. The two stop their trip when they hear that Stephanie had a heart attack.
Ridge and Caroline move into the Forrester guest house, Caroline finds out she's dying (1990)[]
February 1990 Ridge and Caroline move into the Forrester guest house. Everything seems to go well and Thorne even wants to be Caroline's friend. In March Ridge starts worrying about Brooke who says that she and her secret lover parted ways. Caroline is jealous and annoyed that Ridge is so invested in the life of his ex fiance.
In April Caroline goes to the doctor to make checkups. She's shocked when Dr.Oshiro informs her that she has cancer. She asks the doctor to keep in between them and that especially Ridge can't know the truth. When she gets home Ridge assures her of his love and she's touched.
In May Ridge see's that Caroline is reading the bible and he is surprised, but he doesn't suspect that she is ill. Soon he and Caroline find out that Brooke is pregnant and after adding 2+2 they come to a conclusion that Brooke is Eric's secret lover and Thorne reveals to them that they are right.
Ridge shows Caroline the project of the house he wants them to have in the future. Caroline feels touched and guilty that she's keeping this secret from her husband. Caroline lies to her husband that she goes for a business trip to New York, but in reality she is getting tested. Caroline meets Taylor Hayes who becomes her oncologist. Taylor informs Caroline that her results are bad and that the treatment is not working. To make things worse Caroline finds out that Brooke was the one that was examining her blood in the laboratory and knows the truth. Caroline asks Brooke to not tell Ridge and suggests that after she passes she should be with Ridge. Caroline faints in front of Thorne and lies to him that she probably passed out because she's expecting a child.
In July 1990 Caroline organized a dinner with Ridge and Brooke. She started to remind them their history in order for them to bond as she already plans Ridge's life after she will be gone. Brooke reveals to Ridge that Caroline is terminally ill. Ridge is absolutely heartbroken and talks to Taylor about it. He doesn't want to accept the truth. Soon Caroline realizes that Ridge knows. Ridge decided to inform Bill about his daughters illness.

When Caroline and Ridge are on a family party at the Forrester mansion Caroline collapses in Thorne's arms. She starts feeling that she's dying and tells Ridge that it's time. She says goodbye to everyone gathered and Ridge takes his wife to the guest house where Ridge and Caroline read the bible together until she dies in his arms. Caroline left Ridge a letter where she asks him to not grief and to go back living life after she's gone.
Caroline's ghost (2001)[]
Ridge, accidentally cheated on his then wife Taylor Hayes with his ex girlfriend Morgan DeWitt. He was devastated and felt guilty. When he was alone at home in January 2001 Caroline shows herself to Ridge as a ghost and asks him to not give up and to fight for his wife.
