Ridge "R.J." Forrester Jr. is a character on The Bold and the Beautiful, he was portrayed by Joshua Hoffman since 2023 , taking over the role previously played by Anthony Turpel, Mace Coronel, Jack Horan and Ridge Perkett.
R.J. is the only child of Brooke Logan and Ridge Forrester. He has 4 half siblings from his mother's side: Rick Forrester, Bridget Forrester, Hope Logan and Jack Marone who is both his brother and cousin. RJ also has 3 half siblings from his father's side: Thomas Forrester, Steffy Forrester and Phoebe Forrester. He is the grandson of Beth Henderson, Stephen Logan, Stephanie Douglas and Eric Forrester and the biological grandson of Massimo Marone.
Conception and childhood (2003-2004)[]
During Brooke's and Ridge's honeymoon in South America in 2003, Ridge was kidnapped by his crazy former stepmother, Sheila Carter, and was presumed dead after falling into a furnace. His father's other son, his half-brother, Nick Marone, rescued Brooke and comforted her during her time of grieving and the two made love. However, Ridge turned out to have survived, leaving Brooke, not knowing which of the two men was the biological father of her unborn child. Two different paternity tests revealed Nick to be the father and Brooke annulled her marriage to Ridge and planned to marry Nick to raise their child together. However, unbeknownst to Ridge, Brooke, and Nick, the tests were both tampered by Sally Spectra, Jackie Payne, and Deacon Sharpe, as each of them had their own respective reasons to name Nick the father.
In June of 2004, Brooke went into labor when Jackie Payne revealed that she had a third paternity test run and it indeed showed that Ridge was the biological father of her son. Brooke named her son R.J. (Ridge Forrester, Jr.) after originally planning to name him after Nick.
In 2008, R.J. and his sister, Hope Logan, were unintentionally left home alone all night and accidentally started a fire in the living room. The two incidents caused to get the attention of Child Protective Services and sparked a custody battle between Brooke and Ridge, who was getting help from his mother, Stephanie Douglas, but eventually, Hope and R.J. were returned back to Brooke's custody.
Teenage years (2011-2018)[]
In 2011, the Forrester family worked overtime to make sure R.J. would not find out that his mother went missing after her jet crashed in the Pacific Ocean while attending a press conference with Thomas Forrester in Sydney. They were both rescued sometime later and RJ was reunited with his mother and father again.
In 2016, RJ returns at 16, which thrilled both Brooke and Ridge. He informs them how he moved here from boarding school to live with them. Therefore, Brooke and Ridge allow him to move back into the Forrester Mansion. However, from the start, RJ encourages his parents to get back together for their family. Brooke informs RJ that she's currently engaged to Bill, much to RJ's dismay. However, the three of them begin to bond through having family dinners and looking through photo albums. Brooke and Ridge start to feel that sentimental spark again. RJ encourages Ridge to try to woo Brooke back for their family. Ridge tries to win back Brooke but Brooke keeps declining. Ridge tells Brooke that she feels obligated to marry Bill to inherit his 12.5% to kick Quinn out of the company. But Brooke feels that she is truly in love with Bill. Ridge takes Brooke to a cliff above the beach where he shows Brooke a giant heart, he and RJ made in the sand for her, with their names in it. Brooke feels deeply touched by this and decides to be with Ridge, ending her engagement to Bill.
RJ encourages Ridge to propose to his mom. RJ, Brooke, and Ridge get to spend Christmas together as a family, declining from going to the Forrester Mansion, to show their disapproval of Eric's relationship with Quinn. Ridge gives Brooke a wrapped present box for Christmas with a ring inside. He proposes to Brooke, making her teary-eyed and happily accepting. RJ felt bad when Eric suffered a brain hemorrhage when he fainted realizing most of his family didn't show up to his wedding.
R.J. helped convince Ridge that he wanted Brooke more than Bill's stock and cheered when Bill left Brooke at the altar because Ridge had tried to sway Brooke's affections before the ceremony. R.J. rolled his eyes through a day of bonding Brooke set up with Bill, which included being instructed in the use of Bill's punching bag and sitting through a tour of Bill's hidden bunker filled with money and guns. Knowing Bill wanted to elope with Brooke, R.J. assisted Ridge in recreating a heart in the sand that had been a highlight of one of Ridge and Brooke's previous weddings; R.J. was overjoyed when the gesture resulted in his parents finally getting back together. R.J. also supported his cousin, Zende Dominguez, in his quest to win back his lost love, Nicole Avant, and attended their eventual wedding.
R.J. was charmed by potential new intern Coco Spectra and tried to assure his elders that Coco was not like her great-aunt, Sally Spectra, who had a history of stealing Forrester designs. After Ridge dismissed Coco, R.J. gave her a kiss goodbye, then escaped being hit by a forklift on the Forrester loading dock thanks in part to Coco which was unintentional. Grateful that his parents let Coco stay on after he talked his dad into keeping her on, R.J. put her to work on the intern team and innocently showed her Ridge's confidential sketches. When Forrester designs showed up on Spectra's runway, R.J. believed Coco when she swore she was unaware that her jewelry had been rigged with cameras by her sister, namesake designer Sally Spectra. R.J. stood by Coco after she was fired by Ridge and encouraged her to testify against Sally. R.J. grudgingly accepted it when Brooke decided to marry Bill instead of Ridge, and later helped Coco babysit Nicole's biological child, Lizzy Forrester. R.J. comforted Coco when Nicole told her she wanted Lizzy back because she was unlikely to have more children.
R.J. wanted to impress Coco and let her drive Ridge's Camaro; R.J. ended up hospitalized with a concussion because Coco took selfies of them while driving and crashed into a tree. R.J. recovered and received a stern warning from Brooke, who warned him and Coco that they had been lucky to escape with their lives. Later, R.J. felt encouraged when Brooke suddenly left Bill; though he was sorry she was in pain, R.J. hoped it meant his parents would reunite. R.J. praised Coco's virtues during the Forrester family's Thanksgiving tradition of saying something nice at the table.
R.J. was kept in the dark once again when Ridge went missing in the Persian Gulf after falling out of a helicopter. He was relieved when he found out that he survived the fall and came home.
R.J. finally got his wish when Ridge and Brooke announced they were indeed getting remarried; R.J happily brought Coco to his parents' ceremony.
In February of 2018, R.J. disappeared from the canvas, it was said he was away at school, then that he was staying with half-brother Rick Forrester and his wife, Maya Avant, in Paris; whether or not R.J.'s relationship with Coco continued was not addressed.
Coming back to LA (2023)[]
In April 2023, RJ surprised his parents by coming back to LA. It was revealed that RJ is earning a living by being an online influencer. Brooke and Ridge were over the moon when the young man told them that he wanted to stay in town for some time. Ridge reminded his son that he made good designs in the past and offered him a job at Forrester Creations however RJ wasn't keen on taking the offer and he insisted that he is on his own path. The young man's parents learned that he has been in contact with all his siblings apart from Thomas Forrester. RJ explained that he still isn't over the fact that his older brother destroyed his parents' marriage with the "CPS scheme". The young man expressed that one of the reasons he stayed away for so long was the "Logan/Forrester war", but when he learned that even Bill Spencer Jr. and his dad could set aside their differences to put Sheila Carter in jail together, he realized that his family might get along as well. In another office, Charlie Webber informed Hope Logan, Thomas Forrester and Taylor Hamilton that RJ is in the building. Hope ran straight to welcome her younger brother. Taylor asked her son why didn't he go to see his brother, but Thomas replied that it won't be easy after what he did to Brooke and Ridge's marriage. Thomas asked Taylor how she feels about Brooke and Ridge's only son coming back to LA and if she thinks that it could bring Brooke and his dad back together. Taylor admitted that it's a possibility, but she is happy for Brooke and her ex husband, Ridge having their son back in town. Hayes forced her son to welcome his younger brother, being back home. RJ was the first to reach out to Thomas and he also complimented his work but gave him a stern warning about messing with his family. Some days later, Ridge continued to encourage RJ to become a fashion designer. In the father's mind being an influencer is not a real career. Ridge gave RJ a pencil and asked him to draw what inspires him. The youngest Forrester man decided to draw Ridge himself. RJ said that he doesn't want to disappoint his father, but he is on his own path. Ridge embraced his son and told him that he loves him and that he is not disappointing him.
RJ was looking for Hope at Forrester Creations and he met Thomas alone in the office. RJ's older brother told him that he likes being productive at the office. RJ told Thomas that a part of the reason he stayed away was because he feels like he is the one that connects the Forresters and the Logans and it's not easy being the person that is connected to everyone, especially when there is someone who creates problems. Thomas immediately knew that RJ meant he was the one creating problems. RJ confronted his brother about crossing the line multiple times. Thomas replied by saying that he acknowledges it and he is working hard on himself to be the brother that he deserves. RJ was glad when he heard that Thomas doesn't want to meddle in their parents' love life again and they both said that they will allow their parents to be with whoever they want. RJ asked Thomas where do things stand with him and Hope. Thomas said that they are doing great as co-workers and co-parents. Both men admitted that Hope deserves the best. Thomas assured RJ that this time he respects Hope and Liam's marriage. Both men complimented each others' work and admitted that they are both happy that RJ is back in LA.
RJ was happy when he heard that his parents got back together in Rome although feeling sorry for Taylor Hayes. Soon after his sister Hope confided in him and told him that her marriage to Liam Spencer might be over because she kissed Thomas Forrester in Rome during the Hope For The Future promotion. RJ tried to comfort his sister by saying it was only one mistake and Liam will realize it. He also tried to convince Liam to forgive Hope, but wasn't successful.
Helping Eric and falling for Luna[]
Eric Forrester confided in RJ that he wants to put out a new collection, but because of his arthritis he wasn't able to draw. He asked if RJ could draw his ideas instead of him and he agreed to help his grandpa. RJ was saddened when he heard from Eric that his father Ridge Forrester tried to discourage him when he mentioned that he wants to design a new collection. Eric asked RJ to keep their "designing pact" from Ridge and RJ agreed. Soon Ridge noticed that RJ is very busy and he comes home late. In his mind it meant that RJ got involved with some lady, but in reality RJ was busy helping Eric to finish the new collection. Soon RJ discovered that Eric isn't feeling right. Both Eric and Donna asked RJ to not tell anyone that Eric's health is compromised. RJ was torn between telling his father the truth and being loyal to Eric, but he decided to respect his grandfather's wishes. While helping Eric with the collection he met Luna Nozawa, who just became Eric's assistant. RJ immediately became smitten with the young woman and soon she became his confidant. Brooke and Ridge's son was shocked when one day Luna announced that she's leaving Forrester Creations and he refused to let it happen. RJ kissed Luna and she kissed him back. Luna revealed that she's Li Finnegan's niece, but Li and her mom don't get along and Li demanded from her to leave Forrester Creations. RJ asked Li to come to the office and he tried to convince her to cut Luna some slack, but Li still wanted Luna to leave the company and be far away from both her and Finn. In her mind Luna and her mother should have nothing to do with the family company of Finn's wife. RJ was happy when Luna stood up to Li and decided to stay at FC. RJ and Luna started dating, but Zende Forrester also became interested in his cousins girlfriend. Ridge and Brooke's son was shocked when one day he learned that his grandfather is dying. After the fashion show he went to see his father because the secret was weighing on him too much. Ridge was celebrating winning the fashion challenge with his father when RJ broke the news about Eric's terminal illness to him. Ridge decided to lie that he lost the challenge to make Eric happy. Eric decided to throw a party at his home. Even Bridget Forrester and Thorne Forrester arrived. It has been mentioned that Rick Forrester, Kristen Forrester and Felicia Forrester were at the safari and couldn't come to LA. The secret about Eric's illness has been revealed to everyone and they were grieving in silence to not upset Eric. RJ and Luna attended Eric's party and saw how he collapsed on the floor. Ridge Junior was devastated and terrified that his grandfather is going to die however Finn Finnegan gave the family a hope that an operation might save Eric's life. Ridge didn't want to agree to it, but after listening to Donna, Brooke and Steffy and seeing that Eric is reacting to their voices he agreed to save Eric's life. Bridget and Finn said the operation was successful, but Eric crossed over for a moment. Ridge felt guilty and thought that maybe his father wanted to stay on the other side and they forced him to stay and possibly never be the same person he was before. Thankfully Eric started making progress.
Conflict with Zende[]
Zende, who previously was annoyed that RJ is the one helping Eric with the collection, became furious when he learned that RJ is going to be the one helping Ridge to end Eric's collection. In Zende's opinion he should be the one doing RJ's job because he has more experience. He accused Ridge of favoring his children and he made it clear that in his opinion RJ gets special treatment because he is the only child of Ridge Forrester and Brooke Logan. RJ didn't want to argue with Zende, but he lost it after his cousin secretly invited Luna for a date and tried to kiss her. RJ confronted him angrily after Luna told him about the whole thing. Zende tried to make excuses for himself, but soon started to again attack RJ. When RJ and Luna kissed, Zende was stalking them through a slightly open door. Eric was happy when RJ and Luna visited him in the hospital and he expressed how happy he is for the two of them. RJ and Luna expressed how much they love each other and also really wanted to take the next step in their relationship. When RJ invited Luna to his bed in the Logan Mansion she explained that he needed to get his own place so that they could be alone.
Upon unknowingly consuming “Mints” (Drugs) that belonged to her Mom, Luna became disoriented during a party and left prematurely to go lie down at home. She ended up at the guest house where Zende is staying. Zende came home to find her in his bed, she was having hallucinations and thought he was RJ. Zende didn't question anything and they had sex. Upon awakening, she realized that she was hallucinating and had actually slept with Zende. Luna wanted to tell RJ what happened right away but her Mom and Zende convince her nothing good can come from telling RJ. She goes to see RJ but she can't bring herself to do so.
